About Me

Barb Shirk of Bosworth Kennels

Bosworth Kennels was registered with the Canadian Kennel Club and established in 1997, beginning with the breeding and showing of Great Danes. During this time, I also opened an all-breed dog grooming business, which gave me the opportunity to work hands-on with a wide variety of breeds and develop a deep understanding of structure, coat, temperament, and overall canine health.

As time went on, I knew I wanted to transition to a smaller breed—one with a long, respected history, sound health, and a stable, loving temperament. That search led me to the English Cocker Spaniel, a breed that truly checked every box for me.

As my beloved Great Danes grew old and passed on, I was fortunate to connect with an accomplished English Cocker Spaniel breeder with exceptional lines. From this foundation, Bosworth English Cockers was born. My breeding program is built on a commitment to health, temperament, and preserving the integrity of this wonderful breed.

Giving back to the dog community has always been an important part of my journey. Over the years, I have been actively involved in the following organizations:

  • Canadian Kennel Club (1998–present)

  • English Cocker Spaniel Club of Canada (2018–present)

  • Kitchener Waterloo Kennel Club (2000–present)
    -Director (2010–2021)
    -Vice President (2021–2024)

  • Great Dane Club of Canada (2000–present)
    -Director (2000–2015)
    -President (2018–2023)

  • Dangerous Dog Appeal Committee – Waterloo Region (2015–2022)
